1940s Ball Gown Princess Dress Lavender Dusky Blue Tulle Sz 10 #1291
1940s Ball Gown Princess Dress Lavender Dusky Blue Tulle Sz 10 #1291. An original 1940s ball gown or princess evening dress featuring a soft lavender under dress covered with dusky blue tulle that is beaded on the left side of the skirt, and then more overlapping panels of dusky blue tulle.

This iconic 1940s ball gown has a fitted and boned bodice of lavender satin covered with gathered dusky blue tulle. The strapless bodice has a panel of tulle that originates below the bust and goes up and around the neck where it is gathered at the back. This halter panel provides additional security for the strapless sweetheart bodice. The silver beading down the left side of the skirt is on the tulle overskirt, and it is covered with additional panels of dusky blue tulle through which the beading glitters.

The bodice is very fitted and princess seamed, with a matching blue enamelled metal zipper on the left side, and 3 hooks and eyes that close the zipper with thread loop eyes. The satin dress has a piped seam at the waist, and then the skirt is fully gathered at the waist. The color is stunning with a soft lavender satin overlaid with deep dusky midnight blue - the overall affect is magical.

The tulle is actually darker than it appears in some of the photos - the photo showing the beading gives a pretty accurate representation of the color. The dress goes to the floor, but does not drag on the floor - perfect for dancing. The gown is beautifully designed and made, but any designers label has been lost over time. The measurements (approximate) of the ball gown are. Bust (pit to pit) 38. These measurements are roughly equivalent to a modern US size 10. The ball gown looks fabulous with the full crinoline (not included), and these can be found inexpensively on the internet. It can be worn without of crinoline but has less volume and is more of an evening gown and less of a ball gown. Want to ensure that you have a totally unique gown for the ball? No one else will be wearing one like this, and you won't have to pay the price of an original designer gown to have that reassurance!

There are no major condition issues with the gown. However, this is a vintage garment from the 1940s that is at least 65 years old, and there may be some minor signs of age related wear.

The satin fabric of the gown is strong and soft and there are no stains that I could find, including the underarms. The tulle is crisp but soft, and not dry or brittle at all.

There were some loose seams that I sewed on the satin, and so there may be others. The thread loop for the hook and eye at the waist is frayed.

There is one small repair (about 3 long) to the tulle at the hem where a tear had been carefully sewn together, and there are a couple of other minor tears in the tulle - but you cannot see them with the volume of tulle. Otherwise I found no major issues with the gown, which appears to be very well preserved and in great condition for age. The gown has been dry cleaned and is clean and ready to wear to your 1940s themed or any formal event.

Wear it with a stunning waist corsage as shown (not included - see our other listings), or perhaps a princess style tiara (not included). What a find for a collector, this gown is completely wearable. This is NOT a reproduction or a cheap offshore imitation - this is an all original 1940s elegant ball gown or. Featuring layers of soft dusky blue tulle over lavender satin in an iconic princess design. Another amazing, original 1940s ball gown, only from Antiquarius Antiques.

The sizing of vintage clothing can be very different from modern sizes. An item of clothing manufactured 100 years ago was for body shapes different from our own.

Although we quote to the nearest. Equivalent US size, we recommend that you review all the detailed measurements provided closely. Please be aware that vintage clothing is neither new nor perfect. In many cases, vintage clothing has been worn and is no longer new, and that is why it is such a good bargain. Excellent antique or vintage condition rarely means new - do not expect new or perfect as there will almost always be some signs of wear, especially with older items.

Sometimes we sell newer vintage items that are new old stock (NOS) so they have never been worn and can be in such excellent condition that there are no signs of wear. But some of the garments we sell are 75 years old or more, and even if they were never worn, the fabric may show signs of wear just from being stored all those years. Please assume that older vintage and antique items may have a little dust and/or a few age spots, unless we have specifically stated that we have recently laundered the item.

Nevertheless, vintage is a great way to dress extravagantly without having an extravagant budget. You can often find extraordinary examples of antique, vintage or designer items that are wearable textile art and will make you look like a million bucks!
